Sometimes I end up with a few neglected bananas sitting on the counter, slowly becoming overly ripe. Instead of letting them go to waste, I love whipping them up into delicious treats like these Banana Chocolate Bombs. It’s my favorite way to make sure nothing goes spoiled… and even better, it makes my family super happy!
If you’ve been craving something sweet, comforting, and ridiculously easy to make, these Banana Chocolate Bombs are for you. They’re crunchy on the outside, soft and chewy on the inside, and once you bite into them, boom! melted chocolate everywhere.
The best part? You only need a few simple ingredients, and they come together in no time. This is one of those recipes that feels indulgent but effortless, perfect for last-minute dessert/snack cravings or when you want to impress without spending hours in the kitchen. Seriously, my family is obsessed!

Honestly, I love recipes that don’t overcomplicate things, especially on weekdays or when my daughter brought her friends over. Ripe bananas already bring natural sweetness and softness, and when paired with chocolate, it’s truly a match made in heaven. By wrapping them up into a ball and frying, you get that irresistible contrast between crunchy and gooey.
This recipe is also super flexible; you can use dark chocolate, milk chocolate, any chocolate flavour or even add a sprinkle of cinnamon or nuts if you like.
Ingredients You’ll Need:
One of the things I love most about these Banana Chocolate Bombs is how simple the ingredients are. You probably already have most of them in your kitchen!
Ripe Bananas: Ripe (or even overly ripe) bananas are key here. They’re naturally sweet, soft, and full of flavor, which means you don’t need much added sugar. The softer texture also makes them easy to shape and wrap around the chocolate. Make sure to steam them for 15 to 20 minutes and let them cool on room temperature before making the dough.
Chocolate (Dark, Milk, or Your Favorite): The chocolate is the star of the center. Once fried or baked, it melts into a gooey, indulgent filling. Use dark chocolate for a richer, less sweet bite, or milk chocolate for a more classic, dessert-like flavour.
All-Purpose Flour: Flour helps bind everything together and gives structure to the banana mixture. It ensures the bombs hold their shape and creates that satisfying contrast between the soft inside and crispy outside. Besides being used in the dough, the flour is also used as a slurry (the first coating) to act as a glue before coating the balls with breadcrumbs.
Cornstarch: Cornstarch is what gives these Banana Chocolate Bombs their chewy, mochi-like bite. When combined with banana and gently cooked, it creates that soft, slightly stretchy texture on the inside that makes each bite extra satisfying.
Vanilla essence: adds a warm, comforting aroma and enhances the natural sweetness of the bananas and chocolate. You don’t need much, just a small splash brings all the flavors together and makes these Banana Chocolate Bombs taste extra indulgent.
Maple syrup or Sugar (Optional): Depending on how ripe your bananas are, you may not need much sugar or sweetener at all. In this recipe I used maple syrup. A small amount enhances the sweetness without overpowering the banana flavor.
Salt: Just a pinch of salt makes a big difference—it balances the sweetness and enhances the chocolate flavor.
Breadcrumbs or Panko: This is what gives the Banana Chocolate Bombs their crunchy exterior. Panko breadcrumbs work especially well for extra crispiness.

These Banana Chocolate Bombs are one of those recipes that instantly put smiles on faces after the first bite. Simple, comforting, and dangerously addictive. If you haven’t tried them yet, you really should! And don’t forget to check out the video on @sucicooks to see that chocolate pull in action. Let me know if you tried it, enjoy! 🙂
Banana Chocolate Bomb
Ingredients
Banana dough
- 3-4 pcs Ripe bananas.
- 5-6 tbsp All purpose flour. Adjust as you mix.
- 1 tbsp Cornstarch
- 1 tbsp Maple syrup (Optional)
- 1 tsp vanilla essence
- A pinch of salt
- Oil to Fry
Flour slurry (first coating)
- 3 tbsp All purpose flour
- 100 ml Water
Second Coating
- 200 gr Panko bread crumbs or regular bread crumbs
Filling
- 50 gr Dark chocolate. Roughly chopped.
Instructions
- Steam the bananas with skin on for 15 to 20 minutes. Set aside and let them cool to room temperature before making the dough.
- In a large bowl, add in the peeled steamed bananas. Mash them with fork until soft and no more clumps.
- Add in half of the flour, corn starch, vanilla, maple syrup, and a pinch of salt. Mix them together with a spatula until well-incorporated. Here you can add more flour if your mixture is still moist. Mix everything until the dough shapeable.
- To shape the dough, grease your hands with a little bit of oil to avoid the dough from sticking and take about a table spoon of the dough. Flatten the dough on the tip of your fingers and fill it with chocolate chunks. You can be generous here as long as you can still cover the chocolate fully. Wrap the chocolate around and shape it into a ball. Repeat to make all the balls.
- Pre-heat the oil over medium-low heat while preparing for the coating.
- In a small bowl, mix in the flour and water to create the slurry. The consistency should be slightly thicker but not so thick. Just enough to coat the balls evenly.
- In a medium bowl, add in panko bread crumbs.
- Take a ball, dip it in the slurry until all covered and then directly coat it in the panko bread crumbs. Make sure it's covered properly by gently pressing the panko and shape it again into ball to keep it in shape before frying.
- Deep fry over medium-low heat until golden brown. Do now crowd the frying pan so all the balls cook evenly and beautifully. Serve and enjoy!
