About

Welcome to SuciCooks! I’m Suci Bakri, a passionate home cook who loves to spoil my loved ones with delicious foods I make. I’m originally from Indonesia, born and raised in Makassar, South Sulawesi. In Makassar, we are famous for our rich culinary, culture, and spiciness! I’m the oldest and only daughter with two younger brothers. My beloved late mom was a fantastic cook, and she passed down her cooking skills and recipes to me and along the way I self-taught myself with cooking dishes I love from around the world. So, here I am sharing our recipes to you!

I believe everybody can cook, and I specially sharing recipes that are homey, healthy, easy to follow, reliable, and most importantly guaranteed to be delicious! I myself am a foodie who is always hungry, and wherever I go, I always make sure to stuff my face with iconic dishes of the places that I visit, and if I liked them, I know I have to learn how to make them – sometimes with a bit of my twist! 😀

For me, cooking and baking are not just tasks—they’re my art and therapy rolled into one. When I’m in the kitchen, the world fades away as I lose myself in the creative process. Whether I’m whisking batter or cutting veggies, each step feels like a mindful ritual, where I can express myself and let my imagination soar. The smell of fresh ingredients, the tactile pleasure of kneading dough, and the satisfaction of watching simple elements transform into something beautiful and delicious—it all brings me a deep sense of peace and fulfillment. Cooking and baking are my ways of finding balance and joy, turning everyday moments into something extraordinary.

My culinary journey is deeply rooted in my family. My mom always involved me in cooking, often saying, “Women have to know how to cook so you can make your man happy!” 😀 When I was 13, my mom started selling her food by placing a few different dishes on a table on our terrace. The people in the area quickly fell in love with her cooking. This small “table food selling” operation quickly grew, leading us to move into a larger building to set up a diner. Since then, I have helped my mom, joining her on grocery shopping trips to the market and cooked over 20 different types of dishes daily for our diner.

My mom has always been my role model; she was the most caring and loving person, mother, and wife. I feel lucky to have been raised by such an angelic woman. She shaped me into a family woman who loves to spread happiness through cooking.

I am blessed with a cute, sweet daughter and a loving, funny (and sexy ;)) man. Every recipe I share and develop is thoroughly tested and approved by all of us. I also gather feedback from friends, relatives, and even neighbours! I’m mostly post the recipes that we love and make over and over again.

I believe it is essential to share recipes that are reliable and work well in any kitchen, for any skill level. That’s why I perfect and share recipes based on my experience and research. All the photography and videography are done by me.

My goal with SuciCooks is for you to truly discover and fall in love with cooking and to find many new favourite recipes your loved ones will love.
